Modern Browsers

MODERN BROWSERSWarning: Some sort of propaganda ahead: Let us be honest. Internet Explorer is 4 years old, and absolutely outdated. My goal in this article is to introduce new and better browsers, which make surfing much easier, faster and more comfortable. So it is up to you to improve your daily "surf".

Why other browsers?

Good question. Microsoft’s IE has an absolutely insufficient CSS support, doesn’t follow the current webstandard XHTML 1.0 and has much more missing features which are important for a modern browser.

At first I will list some features, so that you can easily see what IE has, and has not. (You won’t be surprised, except you haven’t ever used another browser)

Tabbed browsing:

Since Opera and Mozilla introduced the trend of tabbed browsing, it has become very very popular.

Download Manager:

Handy tools, like a download manager, come with almost every modern browser. They easily let you manage your downloads, set priorities etc.

Good CSS support:

As already mentioned, a good browser needs a good CSS support. I wrote "good" on purpose, instead of using the word "full". Unfortunately browsers have no full CSS support yet. Let’s hope our dream will become true one day...

Pop-Up / Ad Blocker

A very nice feature. Get rid of annoying pop-up windows and ads.

Tiled windows (Opera)

If you have more than one website opened in your browser, you can easily have them displayed on your screen with Opera’s nice "tile" feature.

HTTP Pipelining

A special technology, where a single connection to the webserver is used to request 8 files after each other, without having to wait for the last one. In one sentence: Pages load much faster. Opera has it already integrated, and there is a nifty little program for mozilla which does the same.

Ok, I think it is easy enough to see, that IE has none of these features since it is (as already mentioned) an outdated browser.

Any methods of resolution? BINGO! If you are still using Internet Explorer, I would highly recommend trying a browser like Mozilla or Opera. There are others out there, but these two are fine, and support the most features. Requests, feedback and proposals go on the board.
